Adventure Portfolio
(a.k.a “career”)
I synthesize my experiences into a unique service package for a variety of clients, from startups to Fortune 500. Here they are.
Investment/Finance
Landed at the Franklin Mutual Fund Management Training Program to start my only seven-year stint in a corporation. Lots of number-crunching (Trading), business writing (Market Research), and project management (Franklin/Templeton merger). Eventually landed in Program Management where I spearheaded information technology initiatives on behalf of the CFO, including the company’s very first intranet.
Startups/Entertainment
Quit the corporate world to consult as a freelance tech artist and content producer, combining two of my passions: music and technology. Developed a working relationship with several music-related internet startups, and learned a great deal about how those new-fangled MP3 files really work and how people like to enjoy them when they can go to their computer and get anything they want. Hosted a podcast series on audiophile technology for Audiocafe.com that lasted for twelve episodes, including a face-to-face interview with Thomas Dolby.
My Startup
Launched a startup of my own with a business partner, an MP3 blog, and an Internet Radio company called Groove Engine. Raised a seed round, made hires, created content, had a blast, and learned a TON. We ceased operations once it became clear music licensing was a complete mess and was likely up to the really big money, like Apple, to sort it out. Inadvertently made lots of tech startup and entertainment industry business relationships in the process.
Technology Consulting
Struck out on my own as a consultant and freelancer designing and building sites, digital marketing campaigns, mobile apps, e-commerce, database and server development, digital strategy, you name it. Slowly built a high-quality ad-hoc remote team to get it all done. Held long-standing relationships with people who I have to this day never met in person.
Synthesis
Joined the Producer Guild of America, New Media Council. Served on the steering committee to help launch a new San Francisco chapter (now Pacific Northwest) to add to their established LA and New York chapters. This is where I start to pick up on how storytelling principles are highly impactful to meaningful business growth.
Reboot
Complete consultancy reboot: Decided to put “art” in front of “technology”, with a focus on helping startups and companies grow. No more code commits, server upgrades, or putting out technical fires. Financial background (numbers and metrics), with a technology background (to design and build technology things), and an entertainment background. Rebrand TBD. Turns out technology experience helps fuel creative growth.
